Who can join?

To join the expedition, a young person must:

  • Be aged 17-25 at the time of the expedition

  • Have an open mind and be willing to go on a new adventure

  • Be supported in their application by a support worker, social worker or youth organisation they are involved with

They DON’T need to have any previous skills or experience in the outdoors!

We are keen to work with young people who may not have the opportunity to access outdoor and adventurous experiences, particularly those experiencing complex transitions to adulthood. We will work with young people and their referral partners to remove barriers that they may face in accessing our expeditions.

All places are funded by the Pendragon Project. This funding includes:

  • food

  • accommodation

  • camping equipment

  • group activities including bushcraft and survival skills, high ropes assault course and teambuilding challenges

We may also be able to support funding the transport to and from the expedition basecamp (meeting point will be determined in relation to where the young person lives).

We ask all expedition participants to join us for two virtual sessions beforehand, so we can get to know each other, help with preparation and answer any questions the young person may have.

What to expect

Young people joining our expedition can expect:

  • an information pack and virtual sessions with the Pendragon team beforehand to help them get ready for their adventure

  • 1 day of training and teambuilding at our expedition basecamp

  • 3 days of trekking and camping in the stunning Peak District National Park

  • opportunities to experience adventure activities and learn outdoor survival skills

  • appropriate support from our on-site team of experienced youth development expedition leaders

  • a chance to enjoy a digital detox from social media - our expeditions are free-from-phones, giving everyone the opportunity to switch off and be present in the moment

Your support

We need your help to ensure the young person is supported through the application and experience. We expect referral partners to:

  • complete the initial referral form on behalf of the young person(s) you are putting forward for an expedition place

  • provide a lead contact who will act as a consistent point of contact for the referral and during the expedition

  • be available to support the young person you are referring to complete any required forms
